Engineer Museum
Salpakeskus

THE OLDEST MILITARY BRANCH MUSEUM IN FINLAND NOW OPENED IN MIEHIKKÄLÄ!

Originally an Engineer Museum in Koria
The Museum operated its first fifty years in Elimäki in conjunction with Koria garrison. As the Kymi Engineer Battalion was moved to Vekaranjärvi in Valkeala, the museum activity diminished and the Association for the Engineer Arm began to search for a new location for the museum.

Opening of the museum in Miehikkälä as a part of Salpa Centre
In the beginning of the millenium, a suitable location for the Museum was found in Miehikkälä, where a national Salpa Centre was being established. The each partner of Salpa Centre launched their own development project.

The State Provincial Office of Southern Finland agreed to fund the development project for the Engineer Museum in August 2004. The objective of the project is to establish an all year round operation of the Engineer Museum as a part of Salpa Centre in Miehikkälä. The first section of the Museum's base exhibition is now open. Upon its completion in 2007, the exhibition will display combat engineer activity in the time of independence and defending against weapons of mass destruction, which is also now on the responsibility of the branch.
